Treo 600 loaner

February 28th, 2007

I’ve managed to get my hands on a Treo600 (thanks Ken!) and finally I’ve got a device with the one handed navigation support (or at least some of the built in apps seem to be enabled sensibly).

List doesn’t seem to play well, or at least as well as I hoped.  Previously I had only the emulator, and had done what I thought was the required magic to enable one handed navigation – obviously not enough magic.  Annoying to have code that in theory works, but is totally dormant.  Hopefully it won’t take too long to sort out.

I spent some time on enablnig one handed navigation this weekend – there was certainly a point where I was ready to give up and permanently ignore the problem. The fragmentation of the Palm software development environment with the different vendors introducing new flavours of things makes building applications that work on a wide range of the devices very tricky. Lack of good simulators/emulators compounds that problem.

I do believe I’ve solved most of the problems, and one handed navigation is certainly very sweet to have. I just hope that my efforts result in something that mostly works everywhere and not just on the Treo 600. I should have a release out in a short while.
