Micro-controllers &amp; retro-gaming in a teeny-tiny package. The KickStarter rewards haven&#8217;t shipped yet, but when I saw that there were going to be Dev kits available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tindie.com\/\">tindie<\/a> I leapt at the chance to get my hands on some hardware. I&#8217;m really glad they decided to make more Dev kits than were needed to fulfil the Kickstarter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dev kits in stock now! The device ships with a breakout game (<a id=\"cffd38a1a6262ed53529c95b5b82aaf4-7edec2110d51c1d7216faa4f592522783727df6b\" class=\"js-directory-link js-navigation-open\" title=\"ArduBreakout\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Arduboy\/Arduboy\/tree\/master\/examples\/ArduBreakout\">ArduBreakout<\/a>) installed, so you just have to power it on to have some black &amp; white retro gaming fun.<\/p>\n<p>So now what? Well, of course we want to get setup to write some code and run it on this thing. Luckily there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/community.arduboy.com\/t\/i-have-an-arduboy-development-board-now-what\/33\">community site with instructions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>My desktop is Ubuntu, so here&#8217;s what I needed to do:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ sudo apt-get install arduino<\/pre>\n<p>Then you&#8217;ll want to go to <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Arduboy\/Arduboy\">GitHub to grab the Arduboy library and some examples<\/a>.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">$ git clone https:\/\/github.com\/Arduboy\/Arduboy.git<\/pre>\n<p>Launch the Arudino IDE and load up one of the examples (FloatyBall, a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flappy_Bird\">Flappy Bird<\/a> game)<\/p>\n<p>Before this code will compile &#8211; there are 3 things you&#8217;ll need to do<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Add the Arduboy library files to the Arduino IDE<br \/>\nSketch -&gt; Import Library -&gt; Add Library<br \/>\nIf you don&#8217;t do this, you&#8217;ll get an error saying Arduboy.h can&#8217;t be found.<\/li>\n<li>Set Leonardo as the target<br \/>\nTools-&gt;Board-&gt;Arduino Leonardo<br \/>\nUsing the wrong board will result in errors like:\u00a0<em>&#8220;error: \u2018OCIE3A\u2019 was not declared in this scope\u00a0<\/em><em>TIMSK3 &amp;= ~(1 &lt;&lt; OCIE3A);&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Select the correct serial port<br \/>\nTools-&gt;Serial Port-&gt;\/dev\/ttyACM0<br \/>\nWhen I hadn&#8217;t done this, the\u00a0led on the board would flash like it was uploading, but then I&#8217;d get an error saying it couldn&#8217;t upload<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>At this point I just wanted to stay up all night hacking code..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/community.arduboy.com\/c\/arduboy\/games\">More games can be found on the community site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I saw Arduboy on KickStarter\u00a0I knew I had to get a couple.
