The Wish List

May 23rd, 2006

A lot of people send me notes that praise List for its simplicity, and functionality. However, there are at least as many people who ask for just one more feature. There are certainly a few that are very popular and are near the top of the wish list:

  • SDCard support, or any extended storage solution
  • Support for more fonts
  • Higher resolutions (320×480)

I’d also like to improve the 5-way navigation support. Devices that have one-handed navigation should work nicely now (the Treo for example) [Edit: my friend Ken just pointed out that the Treo doesn’t have nice one-handed navigation, grr.. apparently the Simulator and the Treo behave quite differently – something else to fix] but those that have a 5-way navigator like the LifeDrive are still sort of clunky to use.

There are some features I won’t likely add: More fields, support for non-PalmOS devices, images, hyperlinks, … (mostly things that go beyond the “simple database” idea)

Some of the wish list items have been on the list a long time, so it may be a long while before I get to them.

I am using List for many, many years now and what I am missing most is a function to copy a record (e.g. to duplicate and then edit an existing entry).
I am also misising a “cancel” button when editing a record. Now, I when I messed up an entry there is now way to undo or to cancel.
Last but not least, support for full screen devices would be great (but I think you mean this with support for high resolution).

I use list and love it for it’s simplicity. Thanks for making it available.

My wish list would consist primarily of 2 things.

    1) The ability to exceed the 4kb size limit. Alas, some of my notes spread over 4 entries as they are 2 large.

    2) The ability to “hyperlink”. Essentially to be able to make bookmarks in each note that refers to sections within the note or to other notes.

Don’t know how feasable either would be.

    Anyways, thanks for your work.

Andrew, I don’t have a wish list, but I’ve been a fan of yours since your first release of LIST way back when … and I’ve been faithfully keeping track of your progress & updates.

Just wanted to convey my great appreciation & thanks for your generosity and kindness – LIST helped me get through my Membership (specialist) examinations in 2001 with a lot more ease than I’d dare imagine, thanks to its ease of use & simplicity!

    One grateful (long-time) fan,
    John

Have been using List for many years, and still is the best for me to get things done. My wishlist consists of:

    – ability to duplicate a record for further editing
    – expansion card support (MultiMedia or SD card)
    – exceed the 4 kB size limitation
    – colour would be helpful but not essential
    – ability to have larger fount (my eyes aren’t what they were!)

And, above all, many thanks for keeping the program freeware.

    Cheers from Hong Kong,
    Robert

I use ListDB since 2002 year (basically databases use as glossary and reference book with up to 5000 records)
    My wishes:
    – support hires display modes (320×480)
    – possibility to get brief database info (i.e. record count, databses size, etc.)
    – support categories in document list
    – and VFS support (but now it is not essential)

    Thanks for your work.
    Greetings from Moscow!

    Hi,

I love List. It is easy to understand and to use. I have several databases set up like for books, music, films etc. But now my boss forced me to move to a windows mobile device. I am now urgently looking for a similar tool for windows mobile (NOT a heavy database!). Does anybody have an idea where to find?

    Thanks
    Markus, sad to loose palm

I adopted list when a changed my Newton for a Palm. Quite a while… Throughout all this years I stored several useful “hint and tips” (I’m a network engieneer). With my new Treo650, scroll up/down was not functionning so I installed the v.1.1.1 woithout any problem.
One thing: as an “international” guy, I would appreciate a french localised 1.1.1 version as for 0.99 (get in touch with me if you need help for translation).
Thanks for this soft – KEEP IT SIMPLE (as is ?)

I use List to provide a company directory with is regularly updated. I would like to be able to associate a date with the database. It could be displayed in the Customize screen or in a new database info screen.

Thanks for providing such a great tool!

    Edward
