List 0.99

More bug fixes. PalmOS3.5 seemed to introduce a new crash for List, now fixed with version 0.99. The latest debug ROMs turned up a few minor problems as well, so those have been fixed. List works on all versions of PalmOS from 1.0 to 3.5.A small change to the downloads.  The listlite.zip is now just the english version of List. If you are looking for the French, German, Japanese, Russian, Danish, or Spanish versions of List please download listintl.zip. The main reason for the split is to reduce the bandwidth the List site is generating, often when an update is made the site gets a bandwidth jam for a few days.

A Spanish translation is now available thanks to Rivero Alberto. Thanks also go to Laurent Poujoulat for convincing me to make the changes to List to improve the international language support. Other features include an improved algorithm for the quick find text, and the 12 database limit is gone (except for PalmOS1.0).

Kirk Conyers has an update to the list2wrd.zip utility. Jano van Hemert has taken the perl scripts and made a website that will create a list database from your bookmarks, check it out: http://www.wi.leidenuniv.nl/~jvhemert/scripts/palm-bookmarks/. Darren Dunham author of the perl scripts has his own website up now: http://home.pacbell.net/dunhamd/.

Carolyn Scheppner has created a modified version of List 0.97 called PlayList, you can check it out on her website: http://www.chesco.com/~carolyn [Please note: anyone wanting to re-distribute a modified version of List needs to get my permission to do so, thanks].

It seems that MemoWare has started hosting List databases, so I would like to ask anyone that has created a List database they want to share to upload them to MemoWare.

List 0.98

A few minor bug fixes in both List and the companion program listdb.exe. I’ve also finally tackled the note editing problem people have had with large notes. Now when you are editing a record with a large note a new “Note” button appears that allows you to go to a full screen editing mode for the note field. Two new translations: Russian, and Danish. Thanks to Valery Sukhanov and Henrik Clausen. If you are interested in helping to create a translation for List please contact me. Please also let me know if there are errors in the translation, or improvements to the translations that exist.

a Kirk Conyers kirkconyers@excite.com built a List to Word conversion tool in Perl. list2wrd.zip This is a good example of how you can quite easily extend List (and its companion tools) into an integrated custom solution. Using the Perl script you can make a very pretty “print out” of your List databases.

A few people have emailed me with problems with List — they have failed to read the readme.txt file and have mistakenly installed ALL of the .prc files. You only need to install ONE of the .prc files. The other .prc files are the different translations of List.

List 0.97

Version 0.97 – Beaming support, fix for “quick find” crash, multi-language support. List still works on all versions of PalmOS.The website still needs a lot of work. Hopefuly over the Christmas holidays I’ll have some free time to work on it.

The translations for List were done by:

  • French – Laurent Poujoulat lpoujoulat@attglobal.net
  • German – Jens Albrecht
  • Japanese – Yutakano yutakano@tim.hi-ho.ne.jp

The beaming support was completed while I was down in Phoenix with the help of my good friend Andrew Cornwall — he was brave (or is it foolish?) enough to run experimental List code on his PalmV while testing beaming with me.Many thanks to all of the helpful (and patient) users who emailed me bug reports, your feedback has helped make List a better program.
